Yes, I know it's not what they say. But you don't necessarily have to do things just because the DVLA say so on their website. Is there any legal obligation to return it? And even if there is, they're obviously not monitoring it, given nobody here (including myself) has heard anything about a failure to return old licences. So the money-saving ...

With the 2024 Autumn Budget held on 30 October 2024, the chancellor Rachel Reeves made changes to the amount of VED car road tax to be paid from April 2025 for the 2025/26 tax year. While most bands will rise in line with RPI inflation, changes have been made to the first year rates that could mean a bill of almost £5500 for some buyers.

Thank you, I was hoping they (DVLA) would just go away - they have a reputation of being incompetent. Just checked: The V5 has always been registered to the same address as the driving licence, It looks like the police sent the speeding ticket to the insurance address and it is the insurance address that the DVLA are investigating.

Just applied online, to renew my Photocard licence (you know, the one that was supposed to be free to renew for life  ), and it says"Please cut your old driving licence in two and return it to: DVLA, Swansea SA99 1ZW". Am I supposed to do this immediately, or when my new one arrives?

Who to contact to cancel car tax? You need to contact the DVLA to notify them of the change in vehicle status that will trigger the refund. You can contact them via the DVLA website. You can also contact the DVLA through a webchat service or even write to them, but using the website’s online service is likely to be the quickest method.

Yet the DVLA posted my sons licence to him and it never arrives, after weeks of phone calls, emails & waiting on false promises. We found out it was posted to a totally different village 8 miles away and was never seen again. So what happened to that licence we will never know. DVLA are a disgrace and needs a good shake up from the top down.

Published 07 April 2022. More than 800,000 drivers are still waiting for their paper driving licence applications to be processed, following long delays at the DVLA. Around 200,000 of those are older than 10 weeks and many of those are drivers’ medical cases. The DVLA has faced mounting criticism for the delays, which it blames on staff ...

Last month I bought a second-hand car from a local, independent car dealer. I didn't receive the new ownership documentation (V5, I think it's called) from the DVLA, so I gave them a call; the DVLA told me that they hadn't received the change of ownership form from the dealer, who, as the registered keeper, should have sent this to the DVLA when they sold the car to me.

DVLA documents and web site tend to reflect the rules"right now" (at the point they are published) and not talk about"coming soon" until that day arrives, and then get updated. One exception being the VED renewal form that quotes prices but often mentions that they might have changed by the time you do your renewal.
