The biggest problem Freenet faces, IMO, is incentivization. There's little reason to actually run a big node, other than as a honeypot like you said. Encryption and anonymity are relatively solved problems at this point. But the blockchain-based datastores look like they've got routes to solve incentivization.

What is freenet , actually. Freenet is a decentralised peer-to-peer platform, with no main servers, that aims to provide anonymity to both information publishers and readers. Users can host files as well as publish and maintain information for the long term without the fear of censorship. Unlike Tor and VPN, it is not a proxy and cannot give ...

Freenet's philosophy is to be free of big and forceful corporations. And I know that the information at large about Locutus is there, but as you said, you view Freenet not as a one piece of software, so I think at least some notice, broadcasting to community around Fred, about the decisions you or the board wants to take, would be received better.

With Freenet 2023 you can create decentralized services, so you could build things like search engines, social networks, and messaging systems that are entirely decentralized. These are built out of primitives called contracts and delegates. See here for an explanation of how it works. Reply reply. planetoryd.

It's not worth it. I live in Berlin, quite close to the center, and more than half of the time I had no connection (I even bought the stick, which the Freenet representative said it's better if I wanna use it mostly with my laptop and not as a mini-router). I could barely use it and even when it worked, the connection was lost every 20 min or so.

Freenet Funk is specifically the 0,69€ or 0,99€ product. What you likely saw as their LTE packages are under Freenet. The LTE is included, and the quality is effected by the availability of the O2 network. In most cities i have full LTE and it's often faster than stationary internet. In some months i used over 100GB, because even at home I ...

Funny that, I was trying out freenet just yesterday. I also tried it the year it came out. I used to be a data hoarder and was really excited about freenet but it wasn't what I hoped it would be. I guess IPFS has become that in a way. There was something magical about the unsorted bazaar of the old school file sharing protocols. The spirit of ...
