I don’t think the Quest 3’s USB controller can do 20 Gb/s (not GB/s btw, 20 GB/s is 160 Gb/s), so that would be the reason for the large difference.
For some users, Quest 3 does not charge when the cable is connected to the PC, since the supplied Type-C connectors on the motherboard and some other expansion cards for the additional Type-C connector are not capable of delivering 27W. But I use a laptop with a Type-C Thunderbolt 3 connector, which charges my Quest 3.
So I chose Quest 3 for graphics and fps abilities, plus mixed reality. I ordered it and still continue to research solutions of the main problem (battery life) and it lead me to few questions: What's better for steam and pcvr gaming with quest 3, wire connection or air link (for maximum performance and fps/graphic relate, steam VR)?
I just got my Quest 3 today and still have to set it up (stuck at work haha), but it was cheaper to buy a decent wifi6 router to hook to my PC for playing over the virtual desktop than paying for the official cable. Keep hearing people say it's a game changer as you can play PCVR anywhere in the house as long as you have a good signal. I even saw people in this sub say that it often works ...
I am experimenting with the link cable and I really can't figure this out, perhaps someone can help me. Iracing and Automobilista 2: all maxed out, stable at 90fps without glitch in Virtual Desktop, with everything maxed out there too. Reprojection (spacewrap) off.
Link Cable Fix: The first step would be to get the 'Test Connection' option on Oculus Link to pass with your cable. I'm using a third party 5M USB 3 Gen 1 Cable and I can assure you that your cable is rarely the problem, most issues are software related. Installing ADB Drivers Manually:
For that to work on quest 3 you'd need a PD compatible cable, and i haven't seen any like that yet which guarantee to work with the quest 3. But I'd keep an eye on kuject as they're the most reliable brand in this specific business.
I've been considering buying a Quest 3 for PCVR, but 've heard that the official Link isn't any better than alternatives for its price. What are some good Link cables for the Quest 3, especially ones with power injection?
Kuject has a new link charging cable with what it claims it can charge it at 2a and chard 15% every 30min at 90hz and 10% at 120hz Kuject Design 18W Fast Charging Link Cable for Quest 2/Pro/Pico 4 16FT, with Separate Charging Port for Unlimited 120HZ PC/Steam VR Playtime, USB 3.0 Type A to C Cable Accessories for VR Headset
I purchased the Kuject cable and I can confirm that it does not work. Approached Kuject as the sales pitch was it worked with Quest 3. They were originally quite good to deal with offering a new cable coming out shortly that worked for Quest 3. However the cable is never available for sale. They have become hopeless to deal with now. No return ...
