Shotcut is a free, open source, cross-platform video editor for Windows, Mac and Linux. What are the minimum system requirements? Operating system: 64-bit Windows 7 - 10, Apple OS X 10.8 - 10.10, or 64-bit Linux with at least glibc 2.13. CPU: x86-64 Intel or AMD; at least one 2 GHz core for SD, 2 cores for HD, and 4 cores for 4K.

Choose Yes in the dialog asking to change the Video Mode. At this point, your clip will be cropped, and the Crop: Rectangle filter will be replaced by the Crop ...
Crop: Rectangle. Size, position, rotation. The new Crop: Rectangle V20.09 BETA filter works well. I wonder if it would be possible to add a border parameter to get an effect like the following example in one go (solid or gradient border) This is of course possible at the moment, but you have to apply the filter twice: Crop: Rectangle.
See the webpage below for useful info on how to create .srt files easily and how to use them with Youtube, Vimeo, VLC and Handbrake. I am also in the processing of creating an application to easily burn-in .srt files using Shotcut. I hope to have the app available later this week.
Don’t forget you can always edit the audio in Shotcut as well as the video. If a phrase/sentence doesn’t sound right you can always re-record that bit and substitute just that small audio clip. Just make sure that creating your subtitles is the last step as you do not want to modify the video and then have to edit the .srt file by hand.
