These instructions are for those who wish to install packages from the command-line terminal (Terminal). To install a downloaded Debian (Ubuntu) package (.deb): Open Terminal and type. sudo dpkg -i packagename.deb. To remove a Debian (Ubuntu) package (.deb): sudo dpkg -r packagename.

Find the Microsoft Store Install Service and double=click, If Disabled, change it to Automatic, click Start and click OK. **Run the troubleshooter: Select the Start button, and then select Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, and then from the list select Windows Store apps > Run the troubleshooter. **Reset the Microsoft Store cache.

This setting in Windows 11 is at Windows Settings > Apps > Advanced App Settings > Choose Where to get apps > Anywhere. If that's already set then you may have bought a PC that has S mode, which only allows Store apps to be installed.
