Levy is an IM who's peak wasn't *that* far off of the 2500 rating (2421). Levy is in a position to put the time in for training, as well as already having the requisite ability. Like, it's not as if he can't beat GM's, or play at their level. It's really a mental game for him, as we've seen, when he can stay out of his own way he plays extremely well.
Even if Levy’s youtube personality isn’t to your taste I think he comes across well in the book. It’s light hearted and so much less dry than your average chess book which helps a lot of concepts stick in your brain.
You have to be a Twitch subscriber, and also part of Levy's discord group so that you submit your game there. 1. Award. 26K subscribers in the GothamChess community. The official subreddit for memes, dreams, clips, and discussions for fans of GothamChess.
He has less haters than other popular chess personalities like Hikaru, not sure why you need to feel bad for him. Reply. owiseone23. •. Part of it it's jealousy/gatekeeping and a dislike of what he's doing to chess. Super GMs don't like that he makes way more money than them despite being a much weaker player.
Yeah I think it would be more accurate to say that a World Chess Variant Championship starts today. Chess960 is not chess. That's not to say that it's not a worthwhile game, but Levy is sensationalizing by equating the two.
Levy's R8 opponent is 2/2 against GMs, so that's probably going to be his toughest game - if he can go 1.5/2 in the next two rounds it'll make getting the norm a lot easier as he can just draw his way to the end.
Not sure if one is better at chess, but I find their content to be fairly equal in terms of being able to learn and enjoy chess by watching them. 1. Award. Share. Probably the two most popular IMs in the world, Eric Rosen and Levy, better known as Gothamchess, are chess content giants and very good friends….
What separates Levy from GM level goes way deeper than patience. He's pretty good at spotting tactics quickly and not blundering at fast time controls but when it comes to deep analysis, chess understanding and raw calculation, he is quite far behind the average GM. He's just become really good at making decent moves fast, thus becoming a much better blitz player than classical.
fknm1111. Hikaru is hated because he's a drama llama. Levy isn't really hated, except by a few people who whine about him recommending people play gambits and sidelines, which is actually pretty good advice for his main audience ("hobbyist" players with no title ambitions).
He now only needs 2.5/4, but that’s still 2 wins and a draw against 2450+ players. His worst remaining opponent is a 2350 FM. Obviously the GM Norm should be a goal for Levy, but I’d argue that showing out like this in his return to pro chess is worth celebrating in and of itself.
